2 pastors from Blantyre in Southern Malawi decided to join the CTMI team in Maputo. This is a brief description of their 2500km journey to the conference. Even they did not foresee the price they would pay in discomfort, aches and pains, to attend... Sunday
We started off from Blantyre, Malawi at 11am Sunday morning. We took first, a minibus (Matatu) to Malawi Mwanza border, then we jumped into another small car to the Zobwe - Mozambique border where we took another minibus on its very last legs. It had steel seats, no cushions and we rode in it till we arrived at Tete at 8pm From Tete, we booked another minibus to take us to a distance of 1,600 Km to Maputo. We had to sleep in our seats. Tete is infested by mosquitoes; although we tried to spray ‘anti-mosquito’, we were bitten throughout the night.
Monday
We left Tete at 4am, We drove over the incredibly bad Maputo road for a whole day reaching the town of Mashishi at 10pm. We’d had two punctures and no food save some snacks and fruit we had brought with us. Covered in dust, feet swollen from sitting too long in the same position, all we wanted at this point was a shower and a bed, we managed to find a cold shower.
Tuesday
At 4am we started off from Mashishi on a minibus which ran out of fuel twice on the way. The driver had to jump on another minibus to buy fuel from the next town 10 Km away, giving us a chance to stretch our legs and buy some sugar cane to eat. Finally, at 2pm we reached Maputo, just in time for the first conference meeting. We thank God, for He granted us the desire of our hearts, getting us there in time!
It was worth it All!
